Nonpoint interview answered by drummer, Robb Rivera

As proclaiming about DIY, are you finding this is the new way to go

for bands? There seems to be a stronger voice of independence for

bands with

sites like YouTube and MySpace?

Well, self-promotion has definitely gone to new heights. Sites like

Myspace enables you to share music with millions of people. It can’t

get any better than that. With so many profiles out there you can

actually share with every one of your friends, and their friends. It’s

almost infinite. Because of the amount of people that are signed up,

DIY is the best way to go for any band. Now that the internet offers

such power, and it’s for free.

Outside of this philosophy, what advantages does a label like Bieler Bros.

offer you?

The main advantage is that when is comes to the creative side of

things, we are involved. The office is near our house and since its

owned by management we can go there and have meetings face to face,

rather than to do the whole telephone conference thing. Plus, it is a

tight-family type of vibe and we get the real skinny. Not someone

promising things and then and not delivering.

Because the new album is self-produced/engineered, does this enable your

label to focus more on marketing with the dollars they save? I guess that

would be the smart thing to do for bands.

Well, one of the reasons we help co-produce, because of creative control

we have been allowed. This time we had our engineer Matt Laplant take

over and he was really a treat work with. Digging deep on this was the

whole motto for this record, and yes, by saving all that money we can

concentrate on more cool marketing ideas.

More and more bands seem to fuse the sound of latin elements into their

albums, is that something general metal fans can expect in future albums

from other bands?

Well not every band can just up and incorporate those kinds of sounds.

The few bands that do it, are Latin people themselves, but it would be

amazing to see a lot more acts get into that field. The only bands I have

heard that do it are: Ankla, Sepultura, Soulfly and Ill Nino.

With today’s large set of lyrical news influences, what were the main

influences that brought about the rage for this album?

Everyday experiences are the focus of the lyrics on this record. You

make mistakes, and you learn from them. We are not saying this is

how you need to do it, but how we did it to deal with whatever issues

were at the forefront of our lives at the time.

How did you develop his ‘luck’ to get music featured on the Miami Vice movie

or in your local hockey season opener?

Well, the representatives of both the Panthers and the Miami Vice movie

were interested in using our music. So, I guess it is luck, but man it

has helped our career tremendously. We could not be happier with the

opportunity.

What are your primary objectives for this new tour you are involved

with Skindred?

To have a great time and promote our new record “Vengeance” that comes out on November 6th.
