Interview: Are Demiricous Slayer clones?
Questions answered by Nate Olp
1.With a new album entitled, “Two: Poverty”, do you think it will resonate with a lot of new people in the same boat when you put this last album together?
It might, really the purpose in the title is the same as last time: it’s just one word that sums up what’s goin on in our lives. We ain’t got shit and there’s no regrets. Last album was named after the house a few of us lived in and it was a great time.
2. With producer Erik Rutan’s signature sound and how it was blended on your new album, is this a sort of sound you will aim for in future albums?
I dunno, we’re probably one of those bands who will sound different every album. It’s funny cuz we know more about what we DON’T want to do than what we wanna do…I dunno if that’s good or bad but whatever. When it’s time to write a record we just bring our shit to the table and have fun with it and do the best we can. We never really aim for shit other than making a more original album or just making shit up that we want to hear…I guess just like any other band.
3. With a punk sound coming out in the album, at what songs do you feel contains these elements?
Never Enough Road, shit there’s a bunch of parts of songs that just have maybe a riff or two. When writing it’s really just what feels right. Engineer kinda has it, Celebration of Damage, I think more than anything it may be the vocal vibe. I’m sick of the death metal vocals as far as we go…I just think it lacks identity.
4. You must be totally honored in getting noticed by Slayer’s Kerry King. Any comments?
Absolutely, he came to a show in L.A. after hearing us and we hung out all night, it was a great time. It feels good to be recognized by someone like that but his opinion has only as much value as the next guy. But we completely appreciate it and he’s been really cool to us for sure!!
5. When you sit around at home, you must be like boxed cats itching get back on the road?
Yeah I’m fucking goin insane, it feels like we’re not a band, we’ve been off for close to a goddamn year, it sucks. It feels like we’re not moving forward or doing anything. But shit’s about to go off.
6. Any big touring plans to support this new album?
The first tour we are doing is with Dying Fetus, Skeletonwitch, and The Absence!! Shit will be sick, it’s a perfect tour for us and it starts November 1st and it’s a full U.S. tour, we can’t fucking wait!! Hopefully there’s some more sick shit in the future.
7. Are you hopeful you won’t have to go back to crappy job after this next set of tours?
Yeah but I don’t really plan on shit man, we’re just having fun playing as a band, money is fake, it doesn’t bother me to have none or have enough, whatever. There’s no plan to make enough money to not have jobs, the only plan is have a good time and try to not get fucked and ripped off anymore along the way, we know why we do this.
