Chinese Democracy - Where the hell is it???????????

Tell us AXL!!!!!

The year 2007 is almost up, fans still wait and hope to see or hear something new. They clasp at so called internet leaks from a revived band name that is living off a very old reputation. Nothing (except for “Oh My God” in 1999) new has been officially been released from Guns N Roses since 1991, and yet the subculture fan base that still exists waits….and hangs on……to every possible suggestion that Chinese Democracy’s release is imminent.

Websites such as Ebay, Amazon, Virgin Mega store, HMV to name but a few, give release dates sometime in Febuary 2008. These dates are only speculative, and there has been nothing released of an official nature from GNR or management of any sort. The official gunsnroses.com website offers no information to fans as to what is happening, the only information being that Axl is to sing on 3 songs on the Angel Down album which he collaborated with long time friend Sebastian Bach.

Axl spoke in 2006 of how we were all going to hear new music during the year. Well 2006 came and then went away, with only a press release statement allegedly from Axl in December 06, stating a tentative release date of March 6th 2007. Well March 07 has now passed, and the only thing that has been released is some internet leaks. Some of these internet leaks have been played in concert since 2001, so over a period of 7 years fans have been listening to some probable and possible album material from what appears to be a trial faze for Axl Rose.

So now January 2008 awaits us, and 17 years have passed since the Use Your Illusions 1 and 2. It’s amazing to think that some of the best music that Guns N Roses ever produced was done over a few hours or days, yet this album takes forever. Will there be a Chinese Democracy album? Who knows, only Axl Rose we suppose.

Maybe Axl needs somebody to give him a deadline, like February 12th for instance, otherwise every guns n roses fan will boycott the album and Axl will face bankruptcy. I wouldn’t encourage this sort of behaviour as it is just unethical, though someone needs to help end this unending misery. Maybe someone could ask Anthony Robbins to get the original band members back together. Either way, who gives a monkeys…..the simple matter is…. Where the fuck is the Chinese Democracy album?????????????

Over to you AXL……..

Are you into this Avenged Sevenfold cd gratification?

Are you into this Avenged Sevenfold cd gratification?
Fan says:

Ok it is obvious that you have absolutely no clue about Avenged Sevenfold. Instant
gratification????? They have been touring and making albums for like seven years
now. How is that instant gratification? Do you even know how many albums they have
done? City of Evil wasn't their first and that's probably all you know. Now to say
they are talentless. Are you insane? Listen to the lyrics of their songs, they are
brilliant and unique. Something that you never hear these days with all the bull
shit floating around. If you don't like them fine but to say they are talentless
just makes you look stupid. I'd love to see you challenge any one of them at what
they do. Then they can shove the damn microphone down your throat and make you eat
your words. I am pretty damn positive that Avenged Sevenfold isn't interested in
little girls being their fans. As a matter of fact I have heard them say they oppose
it because the girls that are only there to have crushes on them won't understand
what they are doing musicly. They are the best damn band I have seen since The
Beatles. They are original and they do what they want. Their talent flows naturally
and people who have half a brain know that. If I was you, I'd shut my damn mouth, go
listen to their music before you criticize it. Don't blog if you don't know what
the fuck your talking about. Ignorance is what people think of you!!

The more positive cd review of the latest of Opeth with their Roundhouse Tapes album

The more positive cd review of the latest of Opeth with their Roundhouse Tapes album

OPETH

THE ROUNDHOUSE TAPES

PEACEVILLE RECORDS

!!!.5

People either seem to love Opeth or hate them; I fall into the more positive category, but I do have to be in the right mood for them. This two-disc live album, The Roundhouse Tapes, put me into that mood immediately. As is necessary with Opeth, a reigning atmosphere of bleakness is in order. Despite the infamous venue (The Roundhouse in London) being able to seat roughly 2,000 people (seated), this record has an intimate feel and does contain that weighty Opeth atmosphere. The band, unsurprisingly, sounds amazing, tight and full. A little too full for my tastes, as it sounds too clean for a live recording, in addition to which the audience sounds washed-out (maybe that’s why it sounds like a smaller venue than it really is). The nine songs here, totaling at approximately 90 minutes, are a pretty good selection from their repertoire—of course, with a band that has numerous records to their credit, and many songs that are very long, it’s impossible to come up with a setlist that will make everyone happy. There are plenty of songs I would have wanted to hear that don’t appear here of course, but then they did include some surprises (“Under the Weeping Moon”). Personal favourites include “Bleak,” “When,” “Blackwater Park” and “Windowpane.” Apparently there is also a DVD release of this concert (with lots of bonus stuff planned) slated for an early 2008 release, so if you’ve already worn out this album, keep an eye out for the DVD.

Clare album claims SJODOGG is an is almost an experience in mood  with her cd review

SJODOGG

LANDSCAPES OF DISEASE AND DECADENCE

OSMOSE PRODUCTIONS

!!!

Whatever I ultimately feel about Landscapes of Disease and Decadence, it is interesting to say the least. Sjodogg is black metal with an emphasis on a dark, oppressive atmosphere, sometimes minimalist—almost experimental—arrangements, and at the end of the day it is these elements, rather than any specific portion of the music, that are the memorable facets of the record. It is almost an experience in mood rather than the traditional experience of listening of an album. I felt in a way that it was one continuous song—or perhaps movements of a collective piece—rather than an album with separate and individual tracks. This is both positive and negative; the ‘continuous entity’ formula makes it a unique listen, for sure. On the other hand it’s a little daunting and overwhelming and, oddly, despite a lot of slower parts, the music offers little emotional breathing space (which, considering the likely intent of the album, might be considered a success). Like I said, it’s hard to pinpoint one or two great songs as they all blend together initially. Nevertheless, it feels as though this Norwegian quartet really did what they intended to do, which I have summed up as best I can.

Steel Assassin disappears but come back with an awesome album with this great cd review from Clare

Steel Assassin disappears but come back with an awesome album with this great cd review from Clare

STEEL ASSASSIN

WAR OF THE EIGHT SAINTS

SENTINEL STEEL RECORDS

!!!!

This is one of those bands which kept disappearing through the years; they broke up in the 80s despite some modest successes with their demo tapes (even appearing on Metal Massacre 6 in 1984), reformed briefly in 1995 and were put on hold again until 2005. Despite the passing years, Steel Assassin have kept the 80s true/epic/heavy metal vibe alive and kicking. War of the Eight Saints is enjoyable, energetic, super tight and will make you air-play along. Catchy riffs, ripping solos, strong pulsing drums and bass, powerful vocals (courtesy of new recruit John Falzone)—all the ingredients are here for a solid heavy metal record. Standout tracks include “Curse of the Black Prince,” “Merchants of Force,” the anthemic instrumental “Victory” and epic, concluding title track. For whatever reason, it’s taken Steel Assassin 20 years to create this massive album, but hell—they did it.
