IPod And Apple IPod Downloads - The Magic Formula
By Peter Ward

An iPod can be thought of as a cross between a Walkman and the hard drive used to store files on a computer.

Instead of playing from tape cassettes, CD’s or other media, an iPod holds music internally as digital data in just the same way as a computer stores word processing documents and other files.

iPods are not unique in this respect; many devices do roughly the same thing.

They are collectively known as digital media players or mp3 players.

The iPod however is by far the most popular of the numerous brands on the market.

What Can iPods Do?

All iPods can play music imported from CD or by finding Apple iPod downloads from the Internet. You can listen through earphones, or through a speaker unit, hi-fi or car stereo.

Recent iPods also allow you to display both still images and video, so you can store your digital photo albums as well as DVD’s or movies downloaded from the Internet.

In addition the latest iPod’s allows you to access the web via Wi-Fi to surf the internet as you would at home, even download music directly from one of many Apple iPod downloads sites.

On top of that you can use an iPod as a portable hard drive to back up or transfer any kind of computer file. A 160GB iPod for example has the same storage capacity as 100,000 floppy discs - enough to hold huge quantities of data, even the downloading of whole movies.

Recent iPods also incorporate some basic personal organiser functions, including the display of calendars and contacts. Furthermore iPods can play audiobooks and other spoken word recordings (learn French or Spanish via Apple iPod Downloads). Their large capacity makes it practical to store entire texts so you don’t have to contend with heavily edited versions typically found on cassette tapes or CD.

Peter Ward writes on a variety of download and digital recording issues.
