Machine Head responds to fans who thought Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance would win

[Our win] has apparently cut deep with fans of both bands, prompting a flood of angry whining and sad-faced emoticons on the Kerrang! message boards. Machine Head’s upset victory over the multi-platinum softcore acts sent their inherently sensitive fans into an emotional frenzy, building into a tizzy of unparalleled proportions.

Wrought with dismay, polished fingernails the world over lashed out at the band and metal as a whole with diatribes the likes of “MCR really should have won!!! I’m mad now!!!!”, “what a load of shit, who the fuck listens to them?” and “Stupid Machine Head!!”, at times stooping so low as to say the competition was fixed, and often gravely endangering the integrity of their carefully sideswept hair with posts like “I H8 METAL, I H8 METAL, I H8 METAL, I H8 METAL, I H8 METAL, I H8 METAL, I H8 METAL”.

Linkin Park’s Projekt Revolution Tour Bands Promise Pyro, All The Hits

Linkin Park’s Projekt Revolution Tour  Bands Promise Pyro, All The Hits

June 26, 2007, 3:20 PM ET

Gary Graff, Detroit
The headliners of this year’s Projekt Revolution tour are anticipating a particularly hard-rocking run when they hit the road July 25 in Auburn, Wash.

“We’re all rock bands; we want to put on cool light shows and blow sh*t up and have as much going on visually as we can,” Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington told Billboard.com during a teleconference today (June 26) that also included members of My Chemical Romance and Taking Back Sunday’s Matt Rubano

“We’re allowing the other bands to put on whatever show they want to put on,” he added. “There’s no restrictions. If everyone on the tour has the freedom to shine at their best and there’s no limitations, I think the fans will walk away completely satisfied.”

MCR’s Gerard Way said that his band has become “very addicted to pyro” while touring to promote its latest album, “The Black Parade” and will “bring out a lot of pyro” for Projekt Revolution. The difference, he said, is that the quintet’s one-hour set will not give it time to perform the entire album or to perform as its The Black Parade alter-ego; instead, Way said, MCR will “mix it up, show a lot of different colors of the band.”

Bennington said that Linkin Park’s 90-minute set will include “a lot” of songs from its latest album, “Minutes to Midnight,” as well as “all of the singles” form the group’s two previous albums. “We kind of are amazed at the fact we can squeeze an hour and a half out ’cause our records are short,” the singer added with a laugh.

TBS, meanwhile, will hew more to “the simple side,” according to Rubano. “We’re focusing more on the performance and just trying to bring as much energy to the stage as we possibly can,” he explained. “My Chemical Romance and Linkin Park have certain established themselves with a nuclear level of production, something we’re gong to try to balance out by performing as hard as we can.”

Bennington also addressed questions about why more rap isn’t featured on this year’s Projekt Revolution as it has been on previous tours via Cypress Hill, Snoop Dogg, Xzibit and others. (Styles of Beyond is on this year’s bill.)

“Mixing genres is what we do, but I don’t think it’s what we have to do all the time,” he said. On previous tours, Linkin Park noticed that “there was enthusiasm from the fans of the hip-hop artists but there wasn’t a lot of overall excitement,” Bennington said. “I personally felt like the show kind of went into a lull in some cases. I want the bands to be able to feed off the crowd; I don’t want to have to warm them up after a (rap) show.”
