CRYPTOPSY Posts New Track Online; Prepares For Summer Slaughter Tour

The unstoppable Montreal killing machine, CRYPTOPSY, has wreaked havoc throughout the extreme metal genre for more than a decade, but in 2008 the band has returned stronger than ever. CRYPTOPSY have ultimately crafted their career defining release, The Unspoken King, which could quite possibly also be their most brutal, yet dynamic offering. A blistering new track “Worship Your Demons” can currently be streamed on the band’s revamped MySpace page (www.myspace.com/cryptopsy), so head over now to check out the insanity for yourself.

Mounier states: We as a band have, since the beginning, been experimenting and trying to come up with music that is fresh and new. This album is no different. So mundane to us is music with no purpose, no feeling and just plain repetitive. It was time for CRYPTOPSY to acquire new blood that would play out a vision we’ve seen for years. We took an approach that gives our music a huge dynamic range and brings out its power. Brutality, diversity, complexity, emotion and musicianship define this latest work.”

CRYPTOPSY kicks off the worldwide touring cycle for The Unspoken King as part of this year’s crushing Summer Slaughter touring package, which features the finest acts in the genre today. Click the link below for the complete list of band’s and touring schedule.

Reinventing and redefining metal’s boundaries, CRYPTOPSY, recognized worldwide for infusing extreme music with awe-inspiring precision, rabidly dynamic rhythms and mouth-foaming viciousness, have earned music fans respect inside and outside the metal community. The band’s viperous recordings and punishing live performance have confirmed their place in music’s elite.

In 2008, CRYPTOPSY returns to redefine the boundaries of technical extreme metal with an album that is sure to catch the attention of the entire scene.

We know about this free Best of release the band is putting out. Seems  a bit of risk but no matter if you get a DRM free album if you purchase online.

British metal gods Iron Maiden are offering their new best-of compilation Somewhere Back In Time: 1980-1989 as a free, high-quality download on their website. The catch? Well, the 320 kbps WMA file can only be played three times before it expires. But the upshot is that listeners can then purchase the album as a DRM-free download.

ALBUM PRODUCED BY DANGER MOUSE
"…rock of this caliber is really timeless."–Rolling Stone</center>
On April 1, Nonesuch Records will release The Black Keys’ fifth
full-length LP, Attack & Release. The album follows their 2006 critically
acclaimed Nonesuch debut Magic Potion, which the Chicago Tribune
proclaimed, "a gritty, wild, minimalist masterpiece."
Produced by Danger Mouse (Gnarls Barkley, The Gorillaz, The Grey Album),
Attack & Release was recorded at engineer Paul Hamann’s illustrious Suma
Studio outside Cleveland, Ohio. Initial collaboration began when Danger
Mouse (a.k.a. Brian Burton) approached the band to write songs for an
album he was developing with the late R&B legend Ike Turner. As the band
began composing tracks for Turner early last year, though, they quickly
realized they were actually laying the groundwork for a new album of their
own.
Attack & Release thus became The Black Keys’ first collaborative effort,
as it morphed into their own album with Danger Mouse as producer. By
recording in an actual studio (another first), guitarist-vocalist Dan
Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney were given the opportunity to add a
variety of instruments to their usual simple set-up–including organ,
moog, and banjo. "After recording our previous albums in a basement, we
were ready to go somewhere else," Auerbach confesses. "Danger Mouse came
in as our collaborator. He has a real ear for melody and arrangement and
that was a big part of this record, as was the studio…a really special
place."
Carney concurs: "The place is covered with dust, it smells like a moldy
cabin, and it looks like a haunted house. It was fitting for our first
time going into a real studio." He continues, "I think Dan and I were
intrigued to work with somebody as a producer, and with an engineer like
Paul, because we both realized we couldn’t teach ourselves anything more
and it was best to start learning from other people."
Besides Auerbach, Carney, and Danger Mouse’s work, other contributions on
Attack & Release include guitarist Marc Ribot and multi-instrumentalist
Ralph Carney (Patrick’s uncle)–both veterans of, among other things, Tom
Waits’ band. The closing track, "Things Ain’t Like They Used To Be,"
features Auerbach singing along side eighteen-year-old
bluegrass/country-singer Jessica Lea Mayfield.
The Black Keys have released four albums prior to Attack & Release–2002’s
The Big Come Up, 2003’s Thickfreakness, 2004’s Rubber Factory, and 2006’s
Magic Potion.
