TOM PETTY AND THE HEARTBREAKERS announced their upcoming summer tour that will take the band through the U.S. and Canada. The news comes as the Heartbreakers prepare for the biggest show in live entertainment, the SUPER BOWL XLII HALFTIME SHOW, on Sunday, February 3. Watched by nearly 140 million people in the U.S. and one billion in 230 countries and territories worldwide, the Halftime Show will give the world a preview of the legendary live act that will storm the U.S. and Canada in a few short months.
The 2008 summer tour follows on the heels of a remarkable few years in which Tom and the Heartbreakers have gone from strength to strength. The band’s sold-out thirtieth anniversary tour was the biggest of their career. The Peter Bogdanovich-directed documentary Runnin’ Down A Dream, a commercial and critical success for the band, established the Heartbreakers’ story as a striking embodiment of the American Dream. After the film premiered at the 2007 New York Film Festival, audiences worldwide saw the Heartbreakers’ story of triumph both in theaters and at home. With the massive Super Bowl Halftime Show taking the momentum one notch higher, the summer tour promises to be a further affirmation that Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are indeed one of the best live bands in the business. As in past years, the Heartbreakers will travel with a very special, handpicked support act. Previous tours have featured special guests including Jackson Browne, Pearl Jam, the Strokes, the Allman Brothers, Stevie Nicks, and others. This summer tour continues the tradition of great musical packages, with legend Steve Winwood opening every show.
TOM PETTY AND THE HEARTBREAKERS released their debut album in 1976. Since that time they have sold more than 50 million records. Between the Heartbreakers’ recordings and his solo work, Tom Petty has received 18 Grammy nominations. Honored with lifetime achievement awards including Billboard’s Century Award, MTV’s Video Vanguard Award, and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Tom Petty, with the Heartbreakers at his side, has achieved the status of rock and roll icon among his fellow musicians and listeners worldwide.
STEVE WINWOOD has logged one of the most esteemed careers of the rock era, spanning more than 40 years. As a solo artist and as a member of such celebrated bands as the Spencer Davis Group, Traffic and Blind Faith, Winwood has established himself as nothing short of a musical force, with chart-topping and platinum-selling albums, numerous Grammy awards, and collaborations with everyone from George Harrison and Jimi Hendrix to Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker. Steve Winwood has truly done it all.

GIGANTOUR 2′ CD & DVD Featuring Megadeth, Lamb Of God and More Set For April 22 Release on Image Entertainment
GIGANTOUR 2' CD & DVD Featuring Megadeth, Lamb Of God and More Set For April 22 Release on Image Entertainment
'GIGANTOUR 2' CD AND DVD
FEATURING MEGADETH, LAMB OF GOD, AND MORE
SET FOR APRIL 22 RELEASE ON IMAGE ENTERTAINMENT
AS MEGADETH GEARS UP FOR 2008 EDITION
OF METAL FESTIVAL TOUR
The second coming of MEGADETH's acclaimed traveling metal festival
GIGANTOUR arrives on both DVD and CD April 22 via Image
Entertainment--just ten days after GIGANTOUR's latest incarnation begins
its North American invasion April 12 in Denver. Conceived in 2005 by
MEGADETH frontman DAVE MUSTAINE, GIGANTOUR-- proclaimed "the mother of
all shred fests" by Revolver magazine-resurrects metal's focus on
stellar musicianship.
The GIGANTOUR 2 DVD and CD follow Image Entertainment's fall
2006 release of the debut GIGANTOUR CD and DVD which featured
unforgettable performances by MEGADETH, Dream Theater, Fear Factory,
Anthrax (CD only), Nevermore, Life of Agony, Symphony X, Dry Kill Logic
and Bobaflex.
GIGANTOUR 2 features over an hour of blistering performances
by iconic and influential heavy metal pioneers MEGADETH--who have sold
more than 20 million albums worldwide in a career now spanning 25
years--along with Lamb of God, Opeth, Arch Enemy, Overkill, The Smashup,
and Into Eternity. Recorded in DTS 5.1 surround sound, the DVD version
also features a behind the scenes look at the 2006 tour, while both the
DVD and CD offer a hidden bonus track--MEGADETH's ever-relevant "Peace
Sells."
"Mr. Mustaine was one of speed-metal's originators, and his
double-time riffs are propulsive," wrote Ben Ratliff of The New York
Times in a review of the 2006 GIGANTOUR. "Bending over his guitar, long
blond tresses hanging down, he gives his solos the direct feeling of
wrestling with the music as he plays it, with some chaos and
aggression."
"Megadeth might be counting its history in decades now, but
one would never have gathered that from their career-spanning set,"
concurred Paul Andersen of the L.A. Daily News. "Mustaine and crew
played with a passion and intensity that fed directly from the adoring
crowd, and throughout their 90-minute set, no one sat, as this was a
day--and night--that demanded movement."
The release of the GIGANTOUR 2 DVD and CD coincides with
this year's Earth Day--perfect, really, since MUSTAINE has said, with a
laugh, about GIGANTOUR's mission of emphasizing true musicianship and
virtuosity: "I think that in a small way, we are cleaning up the
environment of crappy bands."
Meanwhile, in February MEGADETH heads to Europe--where
recently announced new guitarist CHRIS BRODERICK (Nevermore, Jag Panzer)
will make his debut with the band alongside MUSTAINE, drummer SHAWN
DROVER, and bassist JAMES LOMENZO--before returning for this year's
GIGANTOUR.
The 29-date North American trek kicks off April 12 at The
Fillmore in Denver and criss-crosses the U.S. and Canada until its May
22 finale at the Mesa Amphitheatre in Phoenix. Joining MEGADETH on this
year's tour are Scandinavian death metal band In Flames, Finland's
Children of Bodom, Arizona's modern extreme Job for a Cowboy, and
Oakland, CA heavy power trio High on Fire.

Robert Plant is so rich he can afford to delay this Led Zeppelin tour
Robert Plant is so rich he can afford to delay this Led Zeppelin tour
The guy is so rich, whats a few more million? Its really not about
money at this point... Robert Plant is doing exactly what he wants
to do - jazz, folk, country - and thats pretty much it. Even if
project managers walked in to pay off the Plant/Krauss country
tour, I would be surprised if Plant somehow financed the country
tour himself to make it happen.
Everybody's drooling for a Led Zeppelin tour - it makes no sense to
us, the fans, that Plant would want to postpone the tour. To him,
LZ is 40 years in the making- he's done it all his life. Maybe
"giving every inch of his love" to the fans isn't quite what it
used to be. And the tour with Krauss tour is something fresh and
new. (just for the record, id take LZ over the Krauss tour any
day- not a fan of Raising Sands, but i can respect it)
Let's not forget, LZ tour IS going to happen, so whats a few more
months anyways?? And Robert Plant will undoubtedly pocket his
millions then. Besides, Plant voice's needs all the warm up, and
practice at his age and condition (I thought his voice was
considerably rough at the O2 concert). Maybe the Krauss tour will
provide the warm up he needs.

Are you ready for the new polished Led Zeppelin tour state?
Are you ready for the new polished Led Zeppelin tour state?
I am as impatient as the next rabid zep fan but I know that Plant's
fickle nature about Zeppelin reunites have been well documented.
Jimmy Page is also aware of this and is willing to wait until
Robert is good and ready...I heard a quote from Plant- something
like "you never know what can happen" ...this is as close as "its
on" as we will get from Robert. I am dying to see them in their
current polished state, even if I have to wait...We already have
seen what Coverdale can do- no need for that.

Is Robert Plant a true musician for skipping millions over Led Zeppelin tour for his own project?

Pehaps Mr. Plant considers himself to be a true musician/artist and
doesn't care about the money. Wow, imagine that.

Kevin Lyman of Warped tour interviewed about Rockstar Mayhem tour with Slipknot and Disturbed
"Jason [Garner, Live Nation Chief Executive Officer of North American Music].was real cool on this. [He] pretty much allowed us to use their facilities and create a show we wanted to present and the financial backing we needed to make the creative deals with artists that we were able to make," Lyman told Billboard.com. "This all came together to bring in a show at a fair ticket price for the caliber of the bands that will be on the package."

Robert Plant giving up hundreds of millions of dollars with Led Zeppelin tour to play with folk music band?
Robert Plant giving up hundreds of millions of dollars with Led Zeppelin tour to play with folk music band?
Can anyone make sense of this? It looks like Mr Plant is willing to delay millions of dollars for his pocket to play in some jazz or folk band. Does not makes sense? Even Led Zep guitarist Jimmy Page said:
"I can assure you the amount of work that we put into the O2 (concert), for ourselves rehearsing and the staging of it, was probably what you put into a world tour…Robert Plant also had a parallel project running and he’s really busy with that project, certainly until September, so I can’t give you any news."
Would you do this? I wouldn’t delay it. I would even pay of f Robert Plant’s other project a nice hundred grand to buy them off. Money speaks louder than anything else as we all know.
