NEW DVD VIDEOS FOR 2008 FROM HEAVY METAL GODS TOTO!
Quincy Jones, Edith Piaf, America and Toto Come Alive in 2008
New York, NY (January 4, 2008)—Eagle Rock Entertainment will take
to the stage in February 2008 with the simultaneous releases of
widely disparate sound: from Soul to Euro Pop to Soft-Rock to Pop
Rock.
Quincy Jones/Live At Montreux 1996 (release date: February 5 –
prebook date: January 4 - Retail list price $14.98) chronicles this
dramatic night in high style. There was a sense of anticipation in
the air as the great Q took the stage at Switzerland’s famed Jazz
Festival. He did not disappoint. By the time his magnificent set
was over, he had traversed the musical terrain of jazz, soul, pop,
gospel, balladry, worldbeat, blues and the kind of sophisticated
R’n’B that he built his reputation on. Chockfull of solos, star
turns and inspired performances (featuring the likes of Phil
Collins, Chaka Khan, David Sanborn and Simply Red’s Mick Hucknall),
this Q version of the much-lauded “Live At Montreux” Eagle series
is not one to be missed! (Q will be honored with the title of
Ambassador at the ‘08 Grammys, He will also serve as Artistic
Advisor for next year’s Olympics).
Tribute To Edith Piaf/Live At Montreux (release date: February 19
– prebook date: January 30 – Retail List Price $14.98): The life
and times of the legendary—and quite tragic—Edith Piaf, France’s
greatest singer, has been documented in such great films as Edith &
Marcel and La Vie En Rose. “The Little Sparrow,” despite dying in
1963, still holds sway over generation after generation. On the
great Montreux stage in 2004, a small intimate jazz ensemble led by
pianist Baptiste Trotignan lovingly covered the Piaf songbook,
hosting French vocalists well-schooled in the Piaf oeuvre as well
as such international stars as Ute Lemper, Barbara Morrison,
Régine, Catherine Ringer and Angelique Kidjo.
America/Live In Central Park (release date: February 19 – prebook
date: January 30 – Retail List Price $11.98): Gerry Beckley, Dewey
Bunnell and Dan Peek formed in London in 1970. With their easy-
flowing folk rock, bountiful harmonies and long string of George
Martin-/Geoff Emerick-produced albums, they have maintained a
consistency of excellence that continues to the present day.
Despite Peek leaving at the height of their fame in 1977, America
has earned its reputation, practically inventing “soft-rock” in the
process. This 1979 Central Park, New York concert was filmed as a
movie, and first released on DVD in 2005.
Toto/Falling In Between Love (release date February 19 – prebook
date: January 30 – Retail List Price $17.98): Toto was born in 1977
Los Angeles by six of the most in-demand studio musicians in the
world. Individually, they had played on a majority of the top-
selling mid-‘70s pop, rock and soul albums. Collectively, as Toto,
their wildly-successful 13 albums from ’78 to ’06 maintain a high
level of pop sophistication. Falling In Between Love documents a
stunning 2007 concert in Paris. Toto rocked hard on this night,
obviously inspired by the love of the crowd on songs spanning the
band’s entire career. 2CD To Be Released February 5. Retail List
Price $17.98. DVD To Be Released March 18.
